Protection
Excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation can cause short-term
and long-term visual problems such as photokeratitis, snow
blindness, cataracts, pterygium, and various eye cancers.
Medical experts often advise the public on the importance
of wearing sunglasses to protect the eyes from ultraviolet
radiation In the European Union, a CE mark identifies glasses
fulfilling quality regulations.
In the preparation for solar eclipses, health authorities
often advise against looking at the sun through only sunglasses.
There is no confirmed relationship between high prices and
increased ultraviolet radiation protection.
A 1995 study reported that Expensive brands and polarizing
sunglasses do not promise best possible ultraviolet radiation
protection
More recently, discover that Sunglasses may be especially
important for children, as their visual lenses are thought
to transmit far more light than adults
Instructions
* STEP 1: Check labels
to make sure the sunglasses provide 100 percent UVA and
UVB protection.
*STEP 2: Look for sunglasses that filter
out at least some blue light, which can loss vision from
degeneration in parts of the eye. To make sure, try wearing
them outside; a blue sky should appear gray with these on.
*STEP 3: Choose a lens color based on your
preferences and comfort level. Gray does not affect color
perception; orange-brown lenses are a good choice for those
with macular degeneration, since they filter out ultraviolet
and blue light rays for maximum retinal protection; green
lenses distort color less than other shades, such as red
or yellow.
* STEP 4: Purchase sun goggles for total
protection of your eyes. These cover a large area and include
side shields. As an added bonus, they also fit over prescription
glasses.
